From Capsular Contracture to Lipofilling

This lady developed severe capsular contracture on both sides. This is a complication of breast augmentation with implants. It consists of excessive scar formation and scar contraction around the implants.
The patient's own fat cannot provide the same volume in one operation as a breast implant. However, lipofilling does treat the unnatural look of the contracture.
Fat was harvested for lipofilling by gentle liposculpture from the waistline, the hips, the abdomen and the inner aspect of the thighs and the knees. The implants were removed. The fat was filtered and injected through access points on the border of the areola and at the base of the breast.
Almost four years later, a second lipofilling was performed.
Age category: 45-49 years.
