Congenital ptosis of the upper eyelid

This lady had a slightly droopy right upper eyelid. This was a congenital condition. There were no problems with vision, but the different position and shape of the upper eyelids was an embarassment. On the left, there was only a slightly too high position of the skin fold.
The attachment of the muscle that lifts the upper eyelid was shortened under local anaesthesia on the right, and repositioned on the left. Beside the correction of the position of the right upper lid, the skin folds of both eyelids became symmetric.
After the operation, the excessively high position of the right eyebrow (an accessory mechanism to open the eyelid) spontaneously disappeared.

Age category: 35-39 yrs.
